NHS Government White Paper (14/7/10)
Equity and excellence - liberating the NHS
The white paper, 'Liberating the NHS', which sets out the Government's long-term vision for the future of the NHS, has just been published. There are very few specific references to mental health and wellbeing, but there is a plan to "begin to introduce choice of treatment and provider in some mental health services from April 2011, and extend this wherever practicable."

Interesting article (6/7/10)
This is from an article in the Daily Mirror published today:
"Increasing numbers now trawl the internet for treatments... Physicians and patients should be aware that the quality of information available on the net varies greatly. With 70% of UK households online, fears are growing that patients could harm themselves by relying on poorly informed sources. Researchers tested common sports injury information available on Google and Yahoo! for accuracy, completeness and clarity.. and found an alarming range of advice. Non-profit websites had the best accuracy ratings. Commercial sites with financial interest in diagnoses were common but advice was often incomplete. Despite its shortcomings, the internet is the future of how patients will get information to make healthcare decisions so patients and physicians need to make sure they are getting that information from reputable, accurate sources. A study this year found only 39% of 500 internet sources tested gave the correct medical advice."
Visitors to Head Forward should be reassured that it is a non-profit website, all information is regularly checked for accuracy, and the quality of our information is certified by the international Health On the Net Foundation.
